Fire access and code compliance on fraternity row
The proposed 12-foot driveway can't fit the 20-foot ladder truck access the Ohio Fire Code requires, and the old 1930s house isn't sprinklered. The applicant has agreed to add sprinklers and fire alarms, which commissioners and neighbors called a major safety win.
CARES survivor services funding
McCullough-Hyde's CARES program provides free forensic exams for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, with a 176% rise in domestic violence cases since 2023. Its services aren't billable, so it needs about $440,000 in philanthropy next year just to break even — city grants help fill that gap.
Prohibited parking ordinance revision
A first-reading ordinance would clarify that parking on the driveway apron between sidewalk and street is prohibited — targeting chronic Mile Square blockages. A vote is expected in August.
Butler County mutual police aid agreement
The new agreement lets county police agencies directly assist one another instead of routing everything through the sheriff, and spells out command authority for SWAT, K-9, drone, and OVI operations.
Oxford Winter House emergency shelter
$50,000 in opioid settlement money will fund the Winter House cold shelter this winter, with another $50,000 planned through next year's budget for roughly a decade of operations.
Sheriff's 'Sanctuary City' Video
Council Member Snavely criticized the county sheriff's video claiming Oxford is a sanctuary city, calling the claim ridiculous and shameful. Council Member Ornelas said she felt rattled and reaffirmed Oxford as a welcoming community.
School Resource Officer Program
Council signed off on the agreement with Talawanda School District continuing the school resource officer program.
Weisman LED sign settlement
The city is settling an administrative appeal filed by Weisman Enterprises after staff and the BZA denied a permit for an LED sign at the Brick Street Bar. Details were discussed in executive session.
