Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Oxford public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Municipal Solar Projects
A $2.6 million, one-megawatt solar array at the wastewater plant broke ground planning this month, with completion targeted by year's end. ODOT also approved advertising a $900,000, fully grant-funded EV charging project — four fast chargers at the Uptown Parks surface lot and two at the municipal building.
Mayoral court transition
With the Area I Court moving to Hamilton March 31, Council is exploring a local mayor's court; a $100,000 startup appropriation drew requests for a more detailed plan before money is spent.
Area One Court relocation and possible mayor's court
Butler County is moving Area One Court from Oxford to Hamilton on April 1, 2026, ending a 30-year Oxford lease. Residents will face longer travel for court matters, and the city is exploring creating its own mayor's court with an appointed magistrate — an added expense offset partly by fines.
Council Meeting
Oxford City Council met, swore in a new police officer, and discussed the Cook Field construction project. If Cook Field is part of your routine, expect possible changes or disruptions as that project moves forward.
City Council Election
Oxford voters will choose City Council members this fall, and those winners will shape the city’s budget, services, and big local decisions. If you live in Oxford, this is your chance to decide who’s actually in charge—not just complain about it later.
