Topics getting the most attention in Oxford public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Spring Street and Lynn Avenue Restriping
The Parking & Transportation Advisory Board wants bike lanes extended on Spring Street from College to Locust and the Lynn Avenue center turn lane reconsidered ahead of 2027 repaving. Staff warned removing the turn lane could cause more rear-end crashes and is preparing a report.
Stormwater runoff and grading on Hester Road
The site must be heavily filled and regraded — about five feet of elevation change — to make the project work. Neighbors near the existing retention pond already battle water and debris washing through, and they fear the changes will make it worse.
2026 Street Resurfacing Program
The first of four votes for next year's paving program, covering the Northwest Quadrant, Spring Street, Park Place, and Bonham Road, boosted by a $330,000 state grant.
Sidewalk, Curb, and Gutter Improvements
Council approved the plan recommendation, so the consultant can now price out widened sidewalks on four corridors around Uptown. Households without cars near campus benefit most; Locust Street will get its own study because it's so complex.
Safe Streets For All Safety Action Plan
The city secured another $250,000 in federal funds — no local match — to hire engineers to comprehensively study why crashes happen across the whole city, from distracted driving to speed limits, feeding future capital planning.
